Is evil something you are, or something you do?

Darth Vader Lord of the Soft GoodsGood morning (well, barely) Galactic Blogger readers!

This morning I have a piece that I’ve really wanted to be able to showcase for a while. A friend and reader (who wishes to remain anonymous) was challenged to upgrade the softgoods on the new three-stage removable helmet Darth Vader to show us (and Hasbro) that quality fabrics can make a big difference in a figure’s appearance.

Without more commentary from me, here you have the results, and please weigh in with your opinions. (Click on the image to see more, and remember to click the images in the image bank twice to go high-resolution!)

Looks great, but won’t Hasbro’s response simply blame costs for why we can never have something as nice as the above?  Meanwhile, looks like he addressed more than just the soft goods, making for what looks like the ultimate Darth Vader figure.  But yeah, I couldn’t imagine Hasbro ever offering us something like that except for maybe a $20 or more convention exclusive someday. My pessimism aside though, what I really WOULD like to know is, all of the above aside, why can’t Hasbro at the very least give us a chain like the above?!  There’s no way a tiny chain could cost more or be more complicated than those fugly metallic chords.

Not that the pictures aren’t good  but I wish I could see this in person. I’m sure it’s even more impressive. I like the chain detail, very nice! Any idea what would hold Hasbro back from attempting this? Costs? Okay, enough commenting, gotta go play TFU on my new Wii…yes Star Wars tempted me into finally choosing and buying a dedicated gaming console! Doh!

that chain really makes a HUGE difference.  This Vader does not look like he is planning to spend the night at Studio 54!  Your anonymous friend does some great work!

Very, very nice. One suggestion, the hilt on Vader’s belt is upside down. As he wears it with the emitter point up.

heck, I’m stil ltrying to figur eout why hasbro gave us a Vader with out a removable right hand. Why did they joint the gauntlet? It’s not like they haven’t done that feature before….It’s fitting they make Nerf, considering as many times as Hasbro drops the ball.I can not for the life of me figur eout why they make a 100% SA YArma del Gargan, when. 1) Skirts hinder most leg movement. 2) She’s a fat ugly background character that peopel were just glad to have and she didn;t deman SA posability. 3) she has bare arms and legs leavign horrid obvious looking joints. 4) Poor Ak-Rev from the same wave is stuck in a goofy leg pose! (not as bad as Umpass Stay) So something as good a correctly done soft goods and a chain…no way will it fly at Hasbro…makes too much sense!
