Toy Fair Goes Hi-Rez
As a special treat for Blogger readers, I wanted to start posting full resolution (those big mofo images) from Hasbro’s press event. Who better to start off with than that luscious Darth Vader (Deconstructed) from the upcoming Force Unleashed line? I’m a little jaded, as readers may know, but my fanboy heart skipped a beat when I saw him. (Click photo to really, really enlarge. Heavy load time.)
To answer a few e-mail questions I’ve received, no there will be no cape packaged with the Biggs Darklighter figure, and there just isn’t time to make the correction. Or at least that’s what they told us. We honestly don’t know where the communication gap happened, but keep in mind that even LFL doesn’t have 100% source material for every costume and character. It just fell through the cracks.
"Why didn’t you shoot _______?" I fell into a toy k-hole, or under figure hypnosis. Take your pick. My friend and associate Stephen Prescott did pick up the slack with a hefty supply of photos, but if something was missed, we do apologize. (No, Hermie Odle was not there. I’m sorry — he just wasn’t there.)
"How are they going to fit that Vaporator into the package?" Hasbro is strong with the Force, and they will use it.
"Why do you want Gargan so badly?" My name is Adam, and I am a Jabbaholic. I know that she’ll be a tough sell, but, and I say this as a gay man, six breasts are better than two. (But what do I know?)
As things wind down here in NY, and I head back to home base, I will post more super-hi-rezzers for you Blogger readers. (If you have requests, that’s what the comments section is for.)
Finally, I want to wish my friends Dan Curto and D. Martin Myatt the best of luck with their new "all toys, all the time" venture, cooltoyreview.com — they’re really putting heart and soul into this. So make sure to have a look.

All of these new images from Toy Fair are phenomonal. I just want to know, when are we going to know the names of the rest of these Force Unleashed characters? That Imperial Girl looks awesome and so does the black Royal Guard, but the best one of all is that old Jedi in the samuri looking get up? He looks like the coolest thing to come down the line in real long time. Thats what I want to know. Oh yeah, and when are we gonna get some Clone Vehicles for Ground Support? V-Wings are great, but alot of us have been amassing Clone Armies for several years now and we would like some infantry support vehicles here.

Any details on names (or anything) about the Force Unleashed line?
What kind of articulation are we looking at for IG-88?
Finally! A snowtrooper with knee joints!

Why are you making apologies for Hasbro about Biggs’ cape? In EVERY picture of Biggs that exists, he’s wearing the cape! It’s a no brainer! Personally, I think they got rid of it to balance out the money spent on Luke’s vaporator.

Kris, read down further… there’s a tidbit that may be encouraging news about Ground Support.

Michael Rex – not exactly making apologies, but trying to explain things as they stand at this moment. Give me that big vaporator over a cape any day, though. I’ll learn to sew my own.

I think the photos are awesome! I wish we got more of the figures packaged as well as the vehicle boxes (I know I’m weird). Any names for the figures would be most appreciated.

Guess with the Vaporater and bar end, the chances of that "rumored" Bespin Han Solo having the whole torture rack are pretty good. I envision Gargan appearing in a Battle of Jabba’s Palace back that include Gargan, Luke Skywalker (Saga endor sans gear, complete with wrongly gloved hand), Beedo (exactly the same paint ops as comm tech greedo), Boba Fett (same saga ktibash from 2006) and C-3PO (, VOTC because we all need MORE bad C-3PO’s). Jabba, of course, will be a cardboard backdrop, because he’s not kewl enough to reissue…

Adam… I just read that tidbit and that sounds highly promising. A turbo tank would be freaking awesome. I would settle for an expanded universe clone tank like in the comics. They could make one of those for the twenty dollar price point they seem to be so fond of. An AT-TE would be the best thing of all though. I am one of those collectors who normally doesnt drop a lot of cash on vehicles, but I certainly would for an AT-TE, or a Turbo Tank for that matter.

are you really a gay man?
February 13th, 2007 at 10:54 pm
Really. (Who else has an obsession with Bea Arthur?)
February 13th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
Well that’s cool to know. Long time reader here and I had no idea, but more power to you. Of course on a Star Wars site, surely you realize that we’ve all seen the Holiday Special by now and we’re all obsessed with Ms. Beatrice, no matter which way you swing! No cantina dio will ever be complete until Hasbro makes her!

Doesn’t Hasbro usually have a presentation and Q&A at Toy Fair? Seems like they spill more beans about what is coming up. Maybe they just do it at Comicon.
I usually skip the EU stuff, but this Vader, the McQuarrie figs, and the Force Unleashed Stormtroopers are the first EU items that I’ve been interested in picking up (not sure if McQuarrie is really EU).

Hi Adam. Thanks for posting the Hi-Res pic of Vader. Since you said we need to ask for specific characters, here’s my request for hi-res pics: Female Imperial Officer and both “stormtroopers” from the Force Unleashed line. I’d ask for more from the regular line, but those three will suffice for now. (E-mail me privately with them if you don’t want to put them out for everyone. I’ve got some cool Photoshop effects I’d like to do with them, especially the troopers and would happily send them back to you to see what I did with them.)
Again thanks for this article.
Respectfully,
-Sal
