Toy Fair 2007 — And Never More Shall Be So
Seriously folks, if you think that the reissued stuff that we’re seeing these days is bad, look at this concept from 1999 for the ill-fated Star Wars Classic Collection. Sometimes thankfully things that are presented at Toy Fair don’t actually come to fruition.
I’m sure this was just a mock-up, but imagine the horror for just a moment. Now think of the Saga Legends line. I think Hasbro is bringing their A-game to the table for the most part. I know that they’re using a few of the Sith figures just because they’re handy, but we’re also getting a lot of great stuff in the mix. (I’m speaking as someone who did pay $100+ for the Bonus Pit Droids, and I’m thrilled to see collectors getting them for $7 believe it or not.)
While speaking of reissues, I have to rant for a moment. This Wal*Mart exclusive wave business is ridiculous. In my particular area, collectors have fanned out across a massive metropolitan area, and only a handful have found these one-per-case gems. I hope that this isn’t a glimpse of things to come. (Basic figures should never be exclusive to any one store or chain, which used to be Hasbro‘s policy. Let’s hope they return to this policy in light of this fiasco.)
I demand to see a Wal*Mart stock-thug vs. a preppy, snotty Target team member in a caged death match to make up for all of the gasoline we’re going to have to waste tracking these down. (A K-Martian can be the referee who gets hit with a chair. A lot.)

Wow that’s the first I’ve ever seen of a SW "Classic Edition" in 99 and I’ve been following the modern line since its inception. Hasbro would have been crazy to have done this back then, as you easily find any of the POTF2 figs at any number of stores. Another release of some of those early POTF2 figs would have killed them at a time when they were counting heavily on the cash fall that would be Episode 1.The Wal-Mart exclusive issue is also a big piece of crap. One per figs in a case is bad enough, when it’s for exclusive figures it’s horrifying. Whoever at Hasbro thought of this needs to get their brain examined. On the other hand, I need me my Kitik.
Great stuff as always Adam!

Are you positive the Walmart wave is one per case? I found 6 sets in one day at my local Walmart, and find it highly unlikely that they would have ordered 6 cases.

Hey Ryan,
Some stores just get more product than others. I’m just basing my report on what others have told me from the Atlanta area. (Fresh cases, one-per-case.) I hope they’ll push some more product out, believe me.

As an employe of the “Giraffe” store chain…can I be in a tag-team match as a “Toys R Ruffian”!?

Hey Adam – you guys from Galactic Hunter should pass on this question in the next Hasbro Q&A round….
Why are the WalMart Wave Figures shipping at only 1 per case and not solid cases of ONLY these five exclusive figures? Why is Hasbro making it difficult for collectors to complete their carded 2006 TSC figure collections?
In my area, so far only one WM seems to have received any of these and they got a whopping – ONE case with the ratio that includes 1 each of figures 70 – 74. That ain’t going to cut it in my area where there are A LOT of collectors and even more scalpers who live off of eBay!
This assortment should be shipping as follows: 3x – Aurra Sing, 3x – Mace Windu’s Astromech, 2x – Labria, 2x – Nabrun Leids & Kabe, 2x – Kitik.
I don’t need Endor Luke Skywalker, Bespin Duel Vader or RD-D2 #10 to be shipping with these figures. None of us do! Once again, this just confirms my belief that having "took the short bus to school" is a resume requirement for the person who determines the assortment ratios for WalMart.

I have never been able to find a WalMart exclusive in-store at any of the dozens of stores they have around the city. If Hasbro doesn’t want my money, too bad for them. I’ll just pass on tracking these down.

What Xanxost said. I never Wal-Mart exclusives in store. NOT ONE. Not the Dvd 3 packs, not the seperation of the twins, not even the supossedly easy to find Cantina tin, not the Early Bird offer that sat in other markets gathering dusts. I can’t even find those Saga 2 packs, which are nothing new. They are arguably the worst store to give an exclusive to. I never expect to see to Saleucami battle pack in person, aside from maybe at a comic show.

OK, I hope you guys are active traders somewhere. I ran a big trading site for years, and I still advocate trading (at cost for good karma) as the best way to close the distribution gaps.

Adam – personally, I am an active member of a state-based collector club. The problem with that I suppose is that if the state is "dry" of the figures then no one on the board can help anyone else. You should still pass on my question to Hasbro for their next round of Q&A – I’m dying to know WHY they are shipping these exclusives at 1 per case/1 per shelf display.
