These Things Take Time
I usually don’t post gossip, and the few times that I have, I’ve been raked over the coals by members of certain forums. I’m a little hesitant to pass on information that isn’t so close to release that it’s a sure thing. However, what’s a situation like Galactic Blogger for if we can’t do something a little more informal, right?
A pretty darn reliable source inside of Hasbro, who I affectionately call a H8-2TYPE Secretary Droid, has passed on some minor details about the upcoming Clone Wars 3D line that is currenly in development at Hasbro. Want to know more? Read on…
A few caveats first: Nothing is a done deal until it is confirmed by Hasbro, and even then it can still be scrapped. (Look at the last waves of Action Fleet for proof); things change — figures can be reshuffled, dates moved, and entire concepts do get nixed, so don’t shoot the messenger; and, yes, I know that people can just make stuff up – this source has provided me with excellent intel in the past.
The first volley of toys will be a large assault. There will be one large preview assortment with two waves of figures and two midsize vehicles. Following that, the actual launch of the line will consist of ≥40 figures in the first few waves. Is that the interesting news? No.
The interesting part is that this line is hoped to really reintroduce the classic Star Wars play pattern, with ships and even something resembling playsets. There will be a "flagship" vehicle assortment, featuring two new larger-sized vehicles and re-releases of the Republic Gunship and the ARC-170 Starfighter (if that tells you what size boxes we’re talking about). What are the two larger vehicles? I don’t know, and neither does anyone else who you’re likely to hear it from. Are they the rumored Sith Infiltrator and V-Wing Fighter (with a nod to Rebelscum for the rumored intel)? All signs point to no, because those are mid-sized vehicles. (That’s not saying those two aren’t coming out, but they won’t be "flagships", and they’re part of the 30th Anniversary line — according to reports.)
Assuming that the Clone Wars 3D line takes off (and why wouldn’t it?) we’ll be getting a couple of other new mid-size vehicles, too.
Now what was that about playsets? The Comic Book 2-Pack series is a testing ground for this, I’d guess. There are plans for Clone Wars 3D two-packs with a unique battle-action stand. Different pieces should connect together to form something resembling a battlefield. These should be in the Deluxe/Ultra pricepoint range, and they will be very kid-targeted.
This is just scraping the surface of the Clone Wars 3D line. This line will be getting the royal treatment from Hasbro, and the TV show is really expected to draw in a lot of new buyers (i.e. kids). The whole concept is a great way to reinvigorate the 3¾" line, and carry a whole new generation into the Star Wars hobby.

This sounds cool, but I hope the new deluxe 2-packs aren’t too action-oriented.

I must have dozed off for the past 40 years…I have to ask what "Clone Wars 3D" is…Are we talking about the time between AOTC and ROTS…aka animated clone wars era? Is this line animated?

Clone Wars 3D is the next animated TV series. It takes place during the same timeframe as the previous Clone Wars animated series. I think they’ve said it is 3D computer animated similar to Jimmy Neutron or Toy Story. It’s kind of a place filler until they get the live action TV show up and running. A place filler so we keep buying toys and stuff, I imagine.

Sounds Good. I’m a sucker for Star Wars toys….I just hope "Clone wars 3D" doesn’t suck so bad it makes me not want to collect. I really enjoyed the Clone Wars cartoon so if it’s on par with that then I’ll be looking forward to this line.

This sounds cool hope its true and the two packs with connecting bases sound like the Modular ideas banded about in the forums that people would like.

I’ll buy the line either way. I’m more hoping these will be a support line for the regular line.Kind of like the original Clone Wars line was for Saga.I just hope it has a better shelf life–that line was too short and there was so much wasted potential there.

Is there any news yet about the Clone Wars 3D cartoon… I’ve been waiting for a trailer or released pictures or something. The Toys sound awesome, I just hope they fit in with the rest of the line. I don’t really need another new looking line to collect.

KKnight — per Hasbro all of the future Clone Wars stuff will be in the "realistic" style. (Then again, those comic book packs aren’t exactly realistic, are they?) So I think your collection is safe.

I think the disclaimer should have been more exhaustive.

Could those remeaining flagships be land vehicles? Hasbro did say they had been working on a Turbo Tank.

If I hadn’t of seen the word "new", I would of guessed it would of been another AT-AT, and a repacked OTC Falcon……..Star Deystroyer playset anyone?
