Top Ten Accessories That We Need Sooner Than Immediately
Top Ten Accessories That We Need Sooner Than Immediately
1. LADDERS — As we discussed earlier this week, an accessory set with a Rebel Flight Tech and a gaggle of ladders was thisclose to being released in 2002/2003, but Target nixed the Accessory Sets from their exclusive line-up. Now we have no
ladders, and getting into the cockpit of the new, supremely cool X-Wing
(Dagobah) requires use of the Force. (Poor Porkins.)
2. WOKLINGS — I thought Hasbro would’ve gotten around to this bundle of fun by now, but they haven’t. Is it a matter of scale? Is it a matter of sculpting a wicker basket with three little bundles of cute inside? Now that we have C-3PO on his Ewok throne, I think Woklings should be the next big Endor accessory to tackle.
3. JABBA’S THRONE — If you’ve read Galactic Blogger before, you know that my bias toward all things Hutt is painfully obvious. There’s no reason that this line has been running for ten years now without the coolest accessory from the Kenner era updated to modern standards. I nearly plotzed when I saw Sideshow Collectibles‘ dramatically cool 12" version, and then I mourned for the fact that I have no 3¾" (modern style) counterpart.
4. HOLOGRAPHIC EMPEROR — I don’t mean a figure. I mean the big head hovering in the air a la Empire. (Hey, Gentle Giant, there’s a bust for you… do the modern version and the non-SE version. I’ll buy it just to go with my figures.) Of course, I’d rather have one from Hasbro. Yeah… uh… moving on?
5. MEDITATION CHAMBER — No matter how bad the 500th Figure version turned out, I’d still like to see Darth Vader’s Meditation Chamber completed with a top canopy, and maybe a mechanical feature that would move a few things and/or turn the Sith Lord’s seat. I know, but it’s good to dream, right?
6. BESPIN TORTURE RACK — Seriously, who wouldn’t want to torture Han Solo over and over again? Is Hasbro afraid that we’ll inflict agonizing pain on Harrison Ford through some twist of Voodoo magic? Newsflash: He’s dating Ally McBeal… if he’s not in agonizing pain already, then he can handle a bunch of geeks wreaking havoc on his action figure.
7. DROIDEKA RAY SHIELD — OK, first off, there hasn’t been a decent Droideka released as of this writing. The one decent one that I’ve seen, which I profiled in an earlier Blogger entry has been relegated to the scrap heap. We do like them… we just want one that is (a) properly scaled, (b) meticulously sculpted, and (c) comes with his cool ray shield effect. Sorry, Hasbro, I don’t want to use my imagination. I do that enough making up these lists.
8. GUNSHIP GUNNER PODS — I asked about these at the big Hasbro presentation in Rhode Island, 2003, and I was told that it’s a matter of scale. Guys (and gals) we’ve bought the Republic Gunship five (four) times now, and no gunner pods. It’s inexcusable, and I’m totally boycotting Republic Gunships until the next one comes out. (Please make us some gun pods.)
9. LAVA MINING DROIDS — They’re more of an action figure stand, so they’re here with accessories, and the platforms that came with the Mustafar Battle playset were wildly inaccurate. We’ve seen what Hasbro can do with Unleashed stuff, so there’s no way they can’t make a couple of Lava Mining Droids with a little peg for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to duel on. Having them would make our battle scenes more ‘organic’, since that’s the buzzword for ‘we ain’t making playsets‘.
10. CONSOLES — They’re not as flashy as many of the previous entries here, but any sort of Death Star or Death Star II console is greatly appreciated by us display-friendly folks. Then we can organically display our junk for our friends and relatives to mock endlessly. (And you’d better know that they do!)

Hate to sound like a nitpicker, but shouldn’t that be 4 times, not 5? Saga, Clone Wars, ROTS, and Clone Wars?

I think your list is spot on dude! Great call!

Feel free to nitpick Sallah, and you’re right… I think somehow I counted the AOTC one and a Saga version in my head. Point is, we’ve bought it several times, and we’d really like a version with the gunner pods. Personally I’d prefer to just be able to buy gunner pods, since I have way too many Gunships to outfit as it is.

I totally agree with the idea of woklings and the consoles for the death star. I think full scale gun pods for the gunship are a little unatainable though. I think it would be nice if they would just rerelease the clone pilots from episode II again and put those mini gun pods with them like they did the first time around. I only have the saga gunship and those pods work fine for that scale. They would have to retool the whole thing to get the pods right and lets face it thats not going to happen. Something I want to see is the tractor beam controls from the first death star. They could make this a great deluxe set with an Obi Wan figure. The Holographic Emperor would be really cool to. I dont care if it was original or Special Edition.

I wouild really like to see some Diorama sets like a Hoth enviroment & a Cloud City enviroment & a Tatoonie Enviroment for those of us who want to display their figure who have no artistic talent or time to hand make these Items.

Vaporators!!!! Cantina Bar Back!!!! Lots of ways they could go with this, from Adam’s excellent list to about a thousand other things that I’m sure the readers could no doubt rattle off. We could get some of these in with the basic figure line (face is Chirpa, as GREAT as that figure was, should have come with a little more under the bubble). But I’ve long maintained (and Hasbro has flatly denied me) that the Deluxe format is where these could be released – Think of sets like the Jabba’s Palace Denizens – and then translate that into a Mustafar mining set, repaint the miner from the 2007 line, throw in a couple styles of the droids, buckets and the platform (include the requisite pegs) and voila, a $15 set that would blow away the lamo playset from last year. Han on the Torture Rack, Luke on the Med center bed (two DIFFERENT opportunities there). Sometimes they border on cinema scenes, battlepacks or some bigger offering. I think accessories would make these set much more attractive both for kids and adults! But they haven’t listened thus far…. at least not to me

I’m loving most of these suggestions, along with the reader-submitted ones, too. I’d grab me multiple vaporators in an instant! It would be nice to see some clear plastic stands on those lava mining droids, too, so they could "float".However, I’m not sure how well accurately-scaled gunner pods would look on an inaccurately-scaled vehicle. I like the idea, but fear for how it would look. While we’re at it, how about a nice Endor holo with the DS II attached by it’s little yellow protective shield?

Hey, you forgot to mention the Geonosian sonic cannon again!
WOKLINGS, back in the 80′s during ROTJ there were character erasers, fully painted. One was a huddled group of woklings on a "log" base. My brother and I used it for our Ewok village set. I mean, it was really just a prop, but the right scale. The Ewoks have been given the shaft.
I think a better Emperor’s throne with articulated Emperor is needed, as well. Didn’t the previous one only work with that cinema scene base/stand thing? I never got that set. I wouldn’t mind a redo of the classic Death Star playset laser cannon. I mean, the new Death Star gunner has nothing to do. (if I could find that figure…) And they made Jabba’s sail barge cannon.

Consoles! Consoles! Consoles! All those Death Star figures need to have something to work with.

what a GREAT idea, every one of them. I’ll buy them all, lets go Hasbro!

If Hasbro can make a decent Luke in Bacta Tank, you KNOW they can make a decent gunpod. That excuse doesn’t fly nice gentlefolks at the Big H. Seriously. . . . and I would like my woklings with gravy too. um um um. . . .

These are some great suggestions. I can do without ladders, but woklings, Jabba’s throne (with a new Jabba), gunner pods, and lava mining droids would be really cool.
