OK…I am not one of those people who expects way too much or anything, but those last few figures (and some other comic con reveals) cast some serious doubt on the judgment of the people running this line right now. Those cantina aliens were barely passable the first time around, 8+ years ago. They are not really comparable with the modern toy line. The fact that nobody at Hasbro is phased by this concerns me….it’s not so much that they repaint stuff (the clones are OK), it’s the fact that they aren’t particularly discriminating in what they decide to repaint. Cinema scenes figures, the small wing TIE Fighter… is anything off limits at this point? Can we look forward to repaints of Monkey Leia and the crowd control stormtrooper next? I mean YIKES.Toys the predate the Prequel trilogy should not be re-appearing at retail at this point!!!

I’m not really opposed to them. I actually like the more realistic paint apps. However, if you really don’t like them, consider where they’ll be sold – Wal*Mart. (That Nabrun Leids paint job is actually nice, IMO.)

The paint is better, but doesn’t make up for the fact that he has a plastic cape, no joints, and an itty bitty head. Compare that figure to Garindan 2006. Should they really be part of the same toy line?I forgot to thank you for the picture, by the way. That is a handy reference.

I’m all on board with the 22 figures pictured. I think Hasbro did a great job! I’ll be buying at least 16 of those…..and the 8 clones and droids I’ll probably buy 4 of each…that’s 40 figurs that Hasbro sold to me alone….not to bad. The "leftovers" Chewy..great scuplt…Maul, Padme…they’ll sell…they may sit for a little while but they’ll go….and Kit, Yareel, and Kit Kiteek (the bug thing)..are actually all cool figures. I was estacic with the showing at the convention…..I’m going to be broke, but I don’t think anybody can say that Hasbro has forsaken the fans. For God’s sake it’s a batledroid two pack! I’ll probably buy more just because it’s a two-fer.

Well, I’m gonna pass on #’s – 53,54,55,56,63,70,71, and 72. As well as the majority of the Tin sets, as well as all the vehicles, excluding the Snowspeeder. Thanks Hasbro, seriosuly, the more rehashes you produce, the more money I save.
P.S. – I received my second place prize yesterday, and I ended up having the posters…Oh well, thanks again!
July 22nd, 2006 at 8:28 am
Glad you got the package Jodo. I’m sure you could use the Sandtrooper and R5, though, right?
How can anyone resist the tin sets? Man, I’m buying two or three of each. I know that sounds wrong, but I want the figures to use in displays; the tins to display; and a set to keep archived.
Sometimes I hate being a completist.

Can anyone out there name these Clone Troopers:–figures # 57, 59, 64, and 69?I’m especially into the 501st w/ pauldron (Appo? Fox?), but I’m also wondering if the last one is supposed to be the Utapau Airborne (with the wrong helmet). Thanks!

All-in-All the complete list of new figures is pretty good. Kabe / Nabrun & Labria certainly wouldn’t have been on my list but there are some exciting new figures there and I’m happy with it overall. R4-M6 will be the only of hte Wal*Mart exclusives that I feel I’ll need to have.

too many straight clone repaints for me. esepecially since they’ll probably only include the same boring blaster and pointless antennae. i feel overwhelmed, but just have to remind myself that not everything’s going to hit at once and then i can take my time and actually look at the product.
check out the size of padme’s gun!

I don’t need any of those cantina rehashes, but I fear that the "U" shaped cantina piece will be packaged in with one of them.
Any word on this, or the distillery? One of the other sites had something about these pieces being confirmed, and I’d be bummed if I had to buy more crappy figures I’ve already got just to get accessories I don’t.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:46 pm
I don’t believe they’ll be packaged with these specific characters (Labria and Nabrun Leids/Kabe), but I’m sure they’ll be packaged with a Cantina figure (or two, since at least two are rumored for next year that aren’t repaints).
I believe jedidefender.com confirmed the distillery, and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before we see it. (They were originally planned to come together, but plans change.)
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:31 pm
I dont know about you guys, but first time in many years, i am actually going to buy battle droids! These repaints are definitely enlisted to my separatist army….And I think I will buy a battalion of Appo, remove his paldron, and turn them into straight 501st vader legion. I hope these are SA style…the original ROTS #65 is just bad word for me. And since I always dig holographic, cody and obiwan is in the bag too. That leaves 7 of each of the clones (i like completeness in 7) and maybe the droids. No….definitely the droids. Once again my wallet had fled.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:29 pm
Its nice to see the Kashyyk trooper, even if it isn’t "movie perfect". Ill probably buy a couple and customize them up a bit. I wish they gave us some SA gray 41st elite clones instead of the quasi-EU designs from the dvd pack and deluxe set- but Im sure theyll fly off the pegs anyway. The new battle droids look great too. I wonder if theyll repack the same super battle droid in the early 2007 waves, or if they have a new sculpt in the works?
The cantina aliens are a bit of a disappointment to me. That labria sculpt is not good enough to stand up alongside "modern" figures. Did they change the preying mantis at all? And why do we need her again, anyway? That set sat on clearance forever. I can see the logic behind repainting nabrun (and doing it well), but were the others the best choices out there? Theres still demand for boshek, and some of the 2005 transitional cantina figures were a bit hard to find. Why not them?
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:41 pm
These final "surprise" waves of TSC are unique figures… an interesting mix. I like some of them a lot… Commander Appo, BARC Trooper, Yarael Poof, the Clone repaints, the Astromechs, Battle Droids. The Wal-Mart exclusives are a head scratcher to me. I don’t think this is the way to go, but then again this looks like a weak set of figures that they put little to no effort in re-doing. Since I have a Cantina diorama I might have to go for the Labria, and possibly the others if they are improvements on the previous releases. All-in-all not an entirely satisfying mix unless you’re a Clone army builder, and even then things could have been considerably better.

The exclusive thing kills me! Hate it! Can’t stand it! Thank god a brother of mine moved to Oregon so I have semi-direct access to the US store exclusives now. But man! Why exclusives??? Why? Why? Why? Do the stores actually put money into this or something? Do they make a smaller profit? It hurts so much to be on the other side of the fence lookin’ in sometimes….Any hoo, I like what I see, mostly. I’m with some though on the repaints of the Cantina creatures. Especially, Labria (hey, there’s a plus to him being an exclusive!) I mean, yeah, talk about a step back in terms of sculpt-level! Just hope that Villie in the Quinlan Vos 2 pack is a newer version! The Death Star Briefing thing has me squirming, looks great! Wannem now!
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:33 pm
I hope you’re right about the distillery and cantina U-shaped bar piece. Actually, I don’t even mind that they’re repacking Kitik–but Hasbro, if you’re listening, please, MAKE HER GREEN!!! Nabrun Leids actually looks like a significantly improved paint job. That Death Star briefing exclusive looks pretty sweet, a definite must.

I’m not likely to buy many of these. The purple R2 and Mace’s purple Clones match my college colors (Kansas State), so I’ll be getting those. Although the idea that Mace lives in a purple house, with a purple ship, with a purple army, with a purple droid, and a purple dog seems very non-Star Wars. I guess it’s Kool and the Gang.
I guess there aren’t really too many more interesting original ideas for figures. I like the plans for the McQuarrie figures. And I like the Imperial Officer set.
Repaints…heh. Holo figures…heh. A Star Wars collector craves not these things.
July 24th, 2006 at 10:03 am
The figures don’t look bad, but they still show a lack of effort on the part of Hasbro. I’m especially disappointed by the way they keep saying, "we’re listening." Where are the figures we all want?
July 24th, 2006 at 10:58 am
As Adam Pawlus points out in his Q&A today, I think 2006 was a transitional year, and The Powers That Be (and the retailers) underestimated the health and popularity of the line. None of us can say with any certainty what was going on behind-the-scenes at Hasbro, but it seems that they’re doing these 22 figures as a stop-gap measure.
The silver lining to all of this is that the line appears to be healthy and strong. Hasbro does listen, as evidenced by their joking response to our Top Ten Dead People here at Galactic Blogger. They read what’s going on, and they gauge our opinions. They just can’t throw out a wave of figures that don’t appeal to a broad base right now.
They don’t want to Star Trek the line, essentially. Having troops, core characters, and collector-driven characters out there in a mix gives the line the right mix to keep product moving.

Nice work with that image!

I personally love this wave and don’t understand the complaints about the repaints. For a non-movie year, this is what I expected and I’m happy to see Hasbro is listening in terms of putting out more army builders. The strong negative for me though, is that being in Canada, we often don’t get the last wave! I believe this is true for other countries as well…. so the US customers are lucky, while the rest of us are forced to pay through the nose to get them through eBay or collector shops. Hasbro needs to show us it’s listening by actually shipping these to other locales outside the US too… especially an army builder wave!
July 27th, 2006 at 7:13 am
Gulp! I hope you’re wrong Tom, as a fellow ‘nadian myself I was only distressed over the possible USA only Walmart exclusives….but if it’s gonna be the whole damn wave! Argggggghhhhh!!!!

I love these new guys… awesome!!!
September 20th, 2006 at 3:31 pm
I’m going to buy 11 of the 22 figures, mainly because I can’t get enough clones and astromech droids. I’m happy to see the Kitik Keed’kak is coming on card, as I am a working man who has never been able to swallow the $30+ price of buying it in the cantina scene sets. This wave doesn’t have too much in the sense of imagination, except maybe the Aura Sing, which I won’t be buying mainly because the figure does nothing for me. This seems to be a bunch of filler to shut us up for a couple of months.

there are some good figures in this wave of 22, but as usual we dont get alot of new figures just repaints ,what im looking for are figures like oola, yarna del gargan, sebulbas 2 twileks ann and tann gella, orn free tas female twileks pampy and supi ,uncle owen and aunt beru( young versions),lunae minx ,po nudo, toonbook tooora , madame jocast nu ,the tonnika sisters, and melina carniss granted some off these are minor charactors but characters have been made who arent even in the films oola has been in a fan mail away figure but as she was in a big seen in jabbas palace i cant understand why she has never had an official figure, i know as a child of thirteen i was desperate for a figure and was gutted one was never made and yarna del gargan was another i wanted for my jabbas palace scene, one other figure i really wanted was hermi odle so i am pleased to know the figure is coming up in wave 5 and why arent there any new ewoks its always the same ones redone .slso why hasnt any of padmes family been done
